Market Introduction:

Dog food Extrusion is a process of forming the material via mechanical and thermal operations in order to create dry kibble and semi-moist pet food. It involves feeding of ingredients such as proteins, grains, fats, vitamins and minerals in a prescribed ratio to create a formulation that would address the nutritional value of pet foods. This in turn is conditioned using steam and water to activate consequential cooking of the starches and proteins of the food. The obtained mixture is fed to an extruder – a screw conveyor installed in a cylindrical container. Within the extruder, pressure and heat forces gelatinization of the starches and denaturation of proteins during which it is made certain that the food is thoroughly cooked and sterilized. After extrusion the food is dried to reduce the moisture content since this will reduce spoilage. Then, fats and flavours are coated on the kibble in order to enhance the taste and nutrient quality of the food. Last, the kibble is cooled and then transferred to packaging.
